PROGRAMME ASSISTANT (SAVING LIVES TOGETHER ASSOCIATE)
Organizational Context
The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides global leadership and support for the UN security management system, enabling the safe and effective delivery of UN programs in challenging environments. This role is within the Division of Field Operations in Yangon, Myanmar, focusing on the Saving Lives Together (SLT) framework, which enhances security collaboration between UN and non-UN partners.
Job Purpose
The Programme Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Saving Lives Together (SLT) programme in Myanmar, under the Chief Security Adviser's guidance. This involves assisting with programme/project activities, researching and analyzing data, coordinating planning and preparation, and managing budget proposals. The role also includes monitoring and evaluating projects, liaising with stakeholders, drafting summaries, and serving as a focal point for implementation activities. The position contributes to strengthening coordinated security risk management, information sharing, and preparedness among humanitarian actors in Myanmar's complex security environment.
Responsibilities
The Programme Assistant is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of the SLT programme. Key duties include assisting with programme and project activities, researching and analyzing data, coordinating planning and proposal submissions, and supporting budget preparation and analysis. The role involves monitoring and evaluating projects, tracking data, and initiating follow-up actions. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate on performance reporting, liaise with relevant parties, draft programme summaries, and coordinate publication processes. The position serves as a focal point for coordinating and expediting project implementation, managing administrative actions, and resolving related issues. Maintaining files, generating reports, and drafting correspondence are also core responsibilities, alongside assisting with data collection, analysis, and updating information materials.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressive experience in programme/project administration or coordination is required. This is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) is mandatory. Experience with UN systems, international organizations, NGOs, security coordination, information management, or training support is desirable.
