UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) - Senior Communications Consultant

Organizational Context

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic partnership between the UN and over 500 financial institutions. It drives the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards and fostering a network of leading institutions. UNEP FI promotes sustainable finance and aligns the financial industry with the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals.

Job Purpose

This role supports UNEP FI's communications efforts by developing and executing communication plans to promote its work. The consultant will enhance outreach to UNEP FI members and the broader finance industry through press relations, online communications, social media, and email campaigns. The purpose is to increase visibility and engagement with UNEP FI's initiatives, particularly those related to nature, climate change, and pollution, ensuring alignment with global sustainability goals and fostering deeper relationships with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Lead communications for key UNEP FI initiatives, including those on nature, climate change, pollution, and circular economy. Provide strategic communications advice, develop talking points, and create annual key messaging tailored for financial institutions, donors, and governments. Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans for external events like Climate COP31. Write and edit website content, press releases, and other materials to increase visibility and interest. Coordinate external communications, ensuring adherence to branding guidelines. Prepare brochures, factsheets, policy papers, and multimedia materials, recommending new communication products and channels. Manage content for member extranets and support outreach to members, financial institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs.

Work Experience

At least seven years of professional experience in communications, PR, or marketing is required. Proficiency in current communication best practices and media outreach is essential. Experience within the finance industry is highly desirable. Experience writing copy for press releases, social media, and online articles is also required.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work with digital technology. Skill in managing multiple tasks across diverse projects in an organized manner. Attention to detail. Knowledge of the finance industry and financial institutions is desirable. Experience with global financial media landscape and sustainable finance media is a plus.
