Graphic Design Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. This internship supports the Land, Housing and Informal Settlements Section (LHISS) within the Global Solutions Division, focusing on developing norms and standards for land, housing, and urban regeneration. The role is based in Nairobi, Kenya, for a six-month duration.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in graphic design and visual communication within the UN system. The intern will support the Land, Housing and Informal Settlements Section (LHISS) by creating visually engaging content for knowledge products, advocacy materials, and online platforms. The role contributes to enhancing the visibility and impact of UN-Habitat's initiatives on sustainable urbanization, land management, and adequate housing. The intern will work under the supervision of an Associate Programme Officer, collaborating with technical teams to ensure clear and effective communication of complex information and research findings to diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
Design and visually format knowledge products, including policy briefs, reports, and case studies, ensuring clear and engaging presentations. Conceptualize and produce infographics and visual assets to effectively communicate complex data and research findings. Create communication materials such as flyers, social media graphics, and short videos to support advocacy efforts and enhance the visibility of land, housing, and informal settlements initiatives. Support the sourcing of images for internal and external communications. Assist in the design and implementation of advocacy campaigns. Contribute to the development and management of knowledge management platforms, focusing on visual identity and graphic design standards. Provide support for organizing events, workshops, and webinars. Attend meetings and prepare summaries of discussions and outcomes. Perform other related tasks as required to support the section's work plan.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to graphic design and communication is necessary. Experience in graphic design and communication is considered desirable.
