Communications and Research Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities, serving as the UN's focal point for urbanization and human settlement matters. This internship supports the Land, Housing and Informal Settlements Section (LHISS) within the Global Solutions Division, contributing to global, regional, and national standard-setting instruments for equitable land supply, efficient land management, housing security, and urban regeneration.
Job Purpose
This six-month, full-time, unpaid internship position within UN-Habitat's Land, Housing and Informal Settlements Section (LHISS) aims to support the section's mandate in promoting sustainable urban development. The intern will contribute to the development of knowledge products, communication materials, and advocacy efforts related to land, housing, and informal settlements. This role provides a practical learning experience in international development, research, and communications, assisting in the creation of accessible content from complex data and research findings to support UN-Habitat's initiatives and knowledge management platforms.
Responsibilities
The intern will develop and format knowledge products, including policy briefs, data analysis, and case studies, in collaboration with technical teams. Responsibilities include drafting and editing communication materials such as articles, newsletters, and social media content to support advocacy and knowledge sharing on land, housing, and informal settlements. The role involves supporting the communications team with media monitoring and audience growth across communication channels. Additionally, the intern will assist in summarizing research findings for infographics, updating knowledge management platforms, and conducting research on land and housing projects. Support will be provided for advocacy campaigns, event preparation, and monitoring project activities and progress reports.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Experience in research, technical writing, knowledge management, and project development is desirable. Familiarity with land and housing policy is also considered an advantage.
