Sustainable Development Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a regional commission promoting cooperation among its 53 member states. The Sustainable Development and Countries in Special Situations Section (SDCSS) focuses on the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals, coordinating the annual Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development. This internship is within the SDCSS.
Job Purpose
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience within the UN Secretariat's ESCAP, specifically within the Sustainable Development and Countries in Special Situations Section. The role is designed to provide direct engagement in the implementation of the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), a key intergovernmental platform. The intern will support the SDCSS in various tasks, contributing to the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals. This position is ideal for individuals seeking practical experience in event organization, communications, stakeholder engagement, and research within the field of sustainable development at a regional level, working closely with a dynamic team.
Responsibilities
Provide logistical and coordination support for meetings and events, particularly the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD), including registration and assisting with intergovernmental meeting servicing. Prepare for meetings with diverse internal and external stakeholders such as speakers, youth representatives, and civil society organizations. Monitor and engage with online communities, supporting stakeholder outreach and engagement activities. Assist in the delivery, documentation, and reporting of trainings and capacity development initiatives. Support youth engagement processes, consultations, and dialogues related to APFSD and sustainable development. Design and create multimedia and social media outreach materials, including videos, flyers, and social media cards. Update and maintain relevant websites with content. Perform tasks related to strategic communications, public information, and digital outreach. Upload knowledge management products and multimedia resources to external platforms. Conduct research and analysis on sustainable development topics, synthesizing data into reports and presentations. Assist with background research for APFSD and SDG-related initiatives in the Asia-Pacific region.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, any prior experience in intergovernmental meetings or international organizations is considered an asset. Applicants should be able to commence the internship within one year of graduation if they have already completed their degree.
