Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Global Compact Office seeks a Consultant, Africa Programming to join the Africa Hub team in Abuja. This role focuses on facilitating the development and delivery of the Global Compact’s programming portfolio within the region, supporting businesses in their sustainability journey and SDG acceleration.
Job Purpose
The Consultant, Africa Programming will drive the development and execution of the Global Compact's programming in the Africa region. This involves coordinating regional and cross-country programs, acting as a liaison between headquarters and country networks, and fostering programmatic partnerships. The role aims to enhance the Global Compact's presence and impact by supporting businesses in integrating sustainability principles and accelerating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The consultant will provide essential program delivery expertise, facilitate knowledge sharing among country networks, and oversee program implementation and reporting.
Responsibilities
Coordinate regional and cross-country programs, including events, accelerators, and academy content regionalization. Support private sector initiatives for embedding human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption principles. Serve as a key liaison with Headquarters and Country Networks to develop regional and country value propositions for businesses. Leverage global platforms like ABLC and GABI. Facilitate and lead the development of programmatic partnerships to enhance the Global Compact's regional positioning and support business sustainability journeys. Provide day-to-day program delivery expertise to Country Networks, foster cross-country learning, and monitor program implementation, including managing reporting documents.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of experience in project management is required. Experience in business development, organizational capacity development, and business process improvement is necessary. Direct experience working with the private sector, particularly small businesses, is essential. Experience with corporate sustainability and African economies is preferred.
