Job Purpose
This internship aims to support UN-Habitat's initiatives in Angola, focusing on sustainable urbanization, housing, and solid waste management. The intern will contribute to the operationalization of UN-Habitat's country program, which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. The role involves assisting in the development of urban and housing policies, spatial planning frameworks, and waste management strategies, ultimately contributing to more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities and communities in Angola. The position offers a valuable learning experience in international urban development.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist in identifying community opportunities and translating them into project concepts, supporting resource mobilization and the preparation of meetings with partners and donors. Responsibilities include developing and disseminating communication tools, supporting the general implementation of UN-Habitat's portfolio, and engaging within UN Cooperation Frameworks. The role involves tracking key indicators, monitoring reports, and assisting in preparing technical documents like layouts and design drawings. Fieldwork support for urban development and housing projects, data collection and analysis, and assisting with website and social media engagement are also key duties. Additionally, the intern will support sustainable solid waste management practices, including the design of recycling initiatives, data collection on waste streams, and contributing to reports and awareness campaigns.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is required. Familiarity with concepts like circular economy, recycling, and sustainable waste disposal is desirable for supporting solid waste management initiatives.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software (Microsoft Office Suite), strong interest in UN work, ability to interact with diverse cultures, excellent organizational and planning skills, proficiency in Portuguese (oral and written), and desirable skills in English and French. Experience with Adobe Illustrator, photo/video editing software, and knowledge of circular economy concepts are a plus.
