This role contributes to the Subnational Climate Action Unit, advancing climate-nature initiatives at subnational levels.
Job Purpose
The Project Specialist will manage a portfolio of GEF, AF, and GCF climate change adaptation projects in Asia, comprising five countries. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful internalization, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of these projects. The specialist will contribute to the Subnational Climate Action Unit's broader objectives, advancing climate-nature initiatives at the subnational level and supporting integrated approaches to climate resilience, biodiversity protection, and sustainable urban development, with a focus on nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation.
Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of GEF, AF, and GCF climate change adaptation projects in Asia, overseeing implementation, monitoring progress, and identifying challenges. Support the development and implementation of projects focused on integrated climate and nature action at subnational and city levels, emphasizing nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation. Coordinate project activities, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge product development. Assist with project financial and administrative management, including reporting, budget revisions, and closure processes. Prepare and review project documentation, progress reports, and respond to review comments. Participate in Project Steering Committee meetings and undertake monitoring missions as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience managing projects related to climate change adaptation, nature-based solutions, environment, or development is required. Experience working with national governments in Asia, UN processes, and intergovernmental organizations is also required. Experience with GEF, GCF, Adaptation Fund, or UNEP projects is an asset.
