The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is a strategic partnership between the UN and over 500 financial institutions. For over 34 years, UNEP FI has been shaping the international sustainable finance agenda, setting global standards, and growing a network of leading financial institutions. This role supports UNEP FI's mission to integrate sustainability into financial market practices.
Job Purpose
This consultancy role is crucial for enhancing UNEP FI's outreach and communications to its general membership and the broader finance industry. The consultant will support these efforts through various channels, including online communications, social media, email campaigns, and press relations. The primary objective is to assist UNEP FI in communicating its work on sustainable finance, aligning the financial industry with the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals, and promoting sustainability across all financial sector operations. This role is vital given the current internal expertise gap in communications.
Responsibilities
The consultant will lead communications for various UNEP FI initiatives, developing and executing tailored communication plans for the finance sector, potentially covering areas like nature, pollution, circular economy, and social/human rights. Responsibilities include leading communications for high-profile events, such as Biodiversity COP 17, creating compelling content for financial institutions and policymakers. The role involves collaborating with the communications team on planning, key messaging, and promoting publications, webinars, and events. Additionally, the consultant will write and manage website content, produce and manage social media content, contribute to newsletters and mailings, and assist with media outreach. Analysis of web and social media campaigns, updating data systems, and managing extranet content are also key duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of professional experience in communications, PR, or marketing is required. Proficiency in current communications best practices, especially digital communications and social media, is essential. Experience in the finance sector, using webinar/online platforms, content management systems, and social media tools like Hootsuite and Canva is desirable.
Skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work with digital technology. Skill in juggling multiple tasks and projects efficiently. Attention to detail. Knowledge of social media and virtual communication channels. Experience writing for social media, online articles, and press releases is desirable. Ability to establish and maintain good working relations in a multicultural team.
