International Consultant for Private Sector and Industry Ecosystem Mapping in the European Formulated Complementary Food Sector
Organizational Context
The International Trade Centre (ITC), within the UN Secretariat, focuses on sector-wide transformation to improve market linkages and private sector competitiveness. The Green & Inclusive Value Chains section specifically addresses responsible production, climate resilience, food security, and sustainable market systems. This role supports these objectives by mapping key stakeholders in the European formulated complementary food sector.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to conduct a comprehensive mapping of key European stakeholders within the formulated complementary food sector. The purpose is to identify and profile actors across the entire value chain, including industry associations, private companies, manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, investors, and research institutions. The assignment will identify potential partners, market actors, industry networks, and technical stakeholders to support sector development, knowledge exchange, investment, and business linkages. The ultimate goal is to provide actionable recommendations for strategic partnerships and future engagement, contributing to the ITC's mission of enhancing private sector competitiveness and sustainable trade practices.
Responsibilities
The consultant will develop and implement a stakeholder mapping methodology for the European formulated complementary food value chain. This includes identifying and mapping relevant European stakeholders such as industry associations, manufacturers, ingredient suppliers, equipment providers, distributors, retailers, and research institutions. A structured interview guide will be developed for stakeholder consultations. The consultant will conduct these interviews, analyze findings from desk research and consultations, and assess stakeholder relevance, interest, and potential contributions. Finally, the consultant will provide recommendations on priority stakeholders and engagement opportunities, culminating in a comprehensive mapping and recommendations report.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience is required in areas such as nutrition, food processing, or market systems development. Demonstrated experience in conducting market assessments, value chain analyses, stakeholder mappings, or business ecosystem studies is essential. Strong knowledge of the European food industry and proven experience engaging with private sector actors and industry associations are also necessary.
