Organizational Context
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides global leadership, operational support, and oversight for the UN Security Management System. UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of UN programs in challenging environments by managing security risks. This role, based in Peshawar, Pakistan, contributes to peace, security, and the SDGs.
Job Purpose
The Associate Security Information Analyst supports security threat analysis, information management, and coordination for UNDSS Pakistan. This role involves identifying and assessing emerging threats, analyzing security incident trends, and developing awareness of threat environments. The analyst will conduct research, manage threat databases, and support security coordination mechanisms. Additionally, the position contributes to mainstreaming gender, diversity, and inclusion in security risk management and performs other analytical tasks as required, ultimately contributing to the safety and security of UN personnel and operations.
Responsibilities
The Associate Security Information Analyst is responsible for supporting security threat analysis, information management, and Saving Lives Together (SLT) coordination. Key duties include identifying and assessing emerging threat trends, analyzing security incident trends at national and sub-national levels, and developing awareness of security threat environments. This involves acquiring, validating, and analyzing information from various sources, preparing reports, and presenting findings. The role also entails managing threat and incident databases, supporting the development of security information systems, and maintaining SLT security coordination mechanisms. Furthermore, the analyst will assist in delivering security awareness sessions, mainstreaming gender, diversity, and inclusion in security management, and performing other analytical and research assignments.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in applied security analysis, threat assessment, or related fields is required. Experience in international organizations or the public/private sector within a security context is also necessary. Experience with open-source information analysis and inter-agency coordination is desirable.
