Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) supports the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) Secretariat, which administers several international agreements. Job Purpose
This consultancy role is dedicated to coordinating the Renewables Environmental Research Initiative (RERI) project, ensuring its successful implementation and providing robust support to CMS Parties and the Secretariat. The position is crucial for advancing decisions made at COP15, particularly those concerning aquatic species. The incumbent will contribute to the development and execution of work programs, facilitate meetings, and produce essential documentation, reports, and outreach materials. The role also involves developing project proposals for fundraising and creating capacity-building resources to enhance conservation efforts and stakeholder engagement within the framework of migratory species protection.
Responsibilities
The primary responsibility is to coordinate the Renewables Environmental Research Initiative (RERI) project, ensuring its effective implementation. This includes assisting in the preparation of progress and donor reports, and other necessary documentation for stakeholders. The role involves supporting the implementation of decisions from the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) and contributing to the development and execution of the Scientific Council's Programme of Work related to aquatic species. Additionally, the incumbent will prepare background documents for meetings, manage meeting and workshop follow-ups, develop project proposals for fundraising, and create publications, presentations, and outreach materials, including website content. Capacity-building materials for workshops and courses will also be developed.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of relevant working experience is required, with at least one year in an international context (e.g., with the UN, an IGO, or an international NGO). Familiarity with the UN, the Convention on Migratory Species, and wild animal conservation issues is necessary.
Skills
Project coordination, report preparation, stakeholder support, meeting preparation and follow-up, fundraising proposal development, publication and presentation creation, outreach material development, capacity-building material development, knowledge of UN and CMS, excellent writing skills, proficiency in standard software applications.
