Organizational Context
The Office of the Victims’ Rights Advocate (OVRA) within the UN Secretariat works to place victims' rights and dignity at the forefront of the UN's prevention and response efforts. This role supports OVRA's "Voice" pillar by strengthening strategic communication capacity to enhance system-wide awareness and coherence of messaging on victims' rights.
Job Purpose
This role is crucial for enhancing the UN's communication efforts regarding victims' rights. The purpose is to develop and implement a system-wide communication strategy, including standardized messaging and digital content for social media and websites. The contractor will design and produce various communication materials, such as podcasts and presentations, to elevate victims' voices and promote a consistent understanding of victims' rights across the UN system. This contributes to strengthening visibility, coherence, and accountability in advancing victims' rights globally.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement internal and external communication strategies, consolidating ongoing communication processes. Coordinate the production of multimedia and digital content, including social media engagement across platforms like Twitter and Instagram. Oversee the design and update of the OVRA and VictimsRightsFirst websites. Create and produce communication materials, including presentations and short podcast discussions on victims' rights issues. Organize communication and public information activities, and monitor social media engagement. Develop and support system-wide and field-oriented communication approaches, ensuring alignment with UN entities. Promote standardized messaging on victims' rights and role clarification.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public information, digital media, journalism, web design, data visualization, or marketing is required. Experience with the UN Common System or a comparable international organization is desirable. Direct experience with human rights, particularly victims' rights, is also desirable.
Skills
Strategic communication planning, multimedia and digital content production, website design and updates, social media engagement, content creation (including podcasts and presentations), public information activities, outreach, messaging development, graphic/web design application proficiency, sensitivity to cultural diversity and gender issues, handling sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion.
