Organizational Context
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), part of the UN Secretariat, is enhancing its work on climate adaptation. This role supports regional collaboration with authorities in Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on developing methodologies for vulnerability and risk assessment, particularly for an atlas project.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to develop technical analyses, review specialized literature, and systematize institutional and normative information to support ECLAC's climate adaptation initiatives. The role contributes to the EUROCLIMA program by identifying elements for research inputs, analyzing technical documents, and synthesizing normative frameworks. The consultant will provide research-based insights to inform reports on climate adaptation, vulnerability, economic development, and sustainable agri-food systems, aiming to strengthen the region's capacity to address climate change impacts and mobilize resources for adaptation.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct a thorough review of technical literature, institutional reports, and specialized documents related to climate adaptation, economic development, and sustainable agriculture. Key duties include developing research inputs such as analytical matrices and base texts for reports on climate adaptation, vulnerability, and agri-food systems. The role involves systematizing international, regional, and national normative instruments relevant to climate adaptation, including the Paris Agreement and NDCs. Additionally, the consultant will track and synthesize innovations in sustainable agricultural technologies and analyze metrics, data availability, and conceptual elements for adaptation measurement. A focus will be placed on identifying normative and institutional factors that can facilitate adaptation finance mobilization.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in sustainable development, biodiversity, economics, climate change, or environmental fields is required. Desirable experience includes 5 years in ecosystem-based adaptation policies or related areas.
