Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to develop a practical manual for localizing Healthy City Indicators and Standards within the Egyptian context, using the Greater Cairo Region as a pilot model. This initiative aims to promote sustainable, resilient, and healthy urban areas, creating a framework that can be replicated and scaled up in other Egyptian cities. The work supports the government's vision for sustainable development, improved quality of life, and integration of public health standards into urban planning, aligning with national strategies like Egypt's Vision 2030.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive data collection and analysis, reviewing secondary sources on healthy cities, and assessing Egypt's national response to healthy city indicators across various sectors like health, environment, urban planning, infrastructure, and governance. The role involves identifying and analyzing stakeholders, performing SWOT analyses, and developing an integrated framework for vision, objectives, and strategies for sustainable urban health areas. This includes formulating a national vision, setting strategic objectives, preparing an integrated sectoral approach, and defining monitoring and evaluation indicators. The consultant will also formulate quantitative and qualitative standards and guidelines, identify development interventions, conduct comparative analyses with international standards, and develop a comprehensive document with implementation mechanisms and an action plan.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in urban planning, sustainable urban development, healthy cities, or urban policy is required. Experience in developing urban standards, indicators, or strategic frameworks for healthy cities is essential. Experience with integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate change adaptation into planning processes, as well as working with international organizations or governmental counterparts in Egypt, is desirable.
