Capacity Building Consultant (Psychosocial Risk Management)
Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance, Office of Human Resources, is enhancing organizational capacity for psychosocial risk management. This initiative supports the UN System Workplace Mental Health and Well-being Strategy, aiming to equip staff and managers with tools to integrate risk management into daily operations and embed sustainable practices.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support the implementation of the UN System Workplace Mental Health and Well-being Strategy by developing and implementing a scalable Psychosocial Risk Management tool. The role will assess mental health risks, prevent them more effectively, and evaluate mitigation measures across UN system entities. The consultant will provide technical leadership to assess existing practices, strengthen institutional capacity, and promote sustainable approaches to psychosocial risk management, contributing to a culture of psychological safety and resilience. The assignment will generate actionable insights and foster evidence-based decision-making to drive organizational transformation and embed well-being.
Responsibilities
Review and analyze existing policies (HR, Health and Safety, Enterprise Risk Management) and employee support services. Synthesize staff survey findings to identify systemic trends and organizational vulnerabilities. Design and deliver targeted training modules to enhance organizational competencies in psychosocial risk management. Develop an implementation toolkit, including user manuals, operational guidance, and role-specific protocols for staff, managers, and support personnel. Provide expert advisory support to integrate psychosocial risk management into broader well-being strategies and governance frameworks. Lead capacity-building initiatives and support the MHS team in designing and implementing a comprehensive psychosocial risk management tool across UN system entities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 10 years of combined experience in psychosocial risk management, training, and capacity building is required. Experience implementing multi-agency psychosocial risk management projects with international organizations is essential. Experience designing and delivering capacity-building initiatives, including developing training materials and facilitating sessions, is required. Prior experience with the UN system or other international organizations is desirable.
