FIELD SECURITY ASSISTANT
Organizational Context
The Field Security Assistant position is within the Security Unit of the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) in Islamabad. This role operates under the direct supervision of the Chief Security Officer (CSO), contributing to the overall security framework of the mission.
Job Purpose
The Field Security Assistant is responsible for gathering and analyzing security information to assess its impact on mission safety and security. This includes continuous monitoring of open sources, developing situational awareness, and managing security incidents. The role involves administrative and logistical support for the security unit, maintaining fire safety preparedness, conducting investigations, and preparing comprehensive reports. Additionally, the assistant liaises with host government security, UN components, and other agencies, conducts premises assessments, provides security briefings, and assists in maintaining security databases and plans. The position also involves monitoring service providers and ensuring the implementation of security measures.
Responsibilities
Key duties include obtaining and assessing comprehensive security information, monitoring open sources, and developing situational awareness. The role involves assisting in the management of security incidents and crises, and overseeing the administration and logistics of the security unit. Responsibilities extend to maintaining fire safety preparedness, conducting fire safety assessments and drills, and performing investigations with report preparation. The Field Security Assistant will liaise with host government security, military, police, NGOs, and other UN agencies. They will conduct premises security assessments, provide security briefings and advice, and maintain security databases. The role also includes monitoring service provider performance, ensuring security measure implementation, and assisting with security budget preparation and procurement. Other duties assigned by the CSO are also part of the responsibilities.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of related work experience in military, police, or security is required. This is reduced to three years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Desirable experience includes dealing with gender-based security, victim support, investigating sexual offenses, managing security incidents, and preparing reports using MS Office.
