Organizational Context
The United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) provides global leadership, operational support, and oversight for the UN Security Management System. UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of UN programs in complex environments. This internship is within the Office of the Chief of Staff, Insight and Accountability Unit, supporting senior management on strategic planning and the UN mandate.
Job Purpose
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience within the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS). The role supports the Insight and Accountability Unit in its normative work, contributing to performance measurement, risk management, and innovation. The intern will assist in data analysis, reporting, and the development of tools to support evidence-based decision-making. This position provides a chance to contribute to peace and security, human rights, and the Sustainable Development Goals, offering a fulfilling experience within a dynamic and diverse organization.
Responsibilities
The intern will provide timely support to the Insight and Accountability Unit's normative work, focusing on performance measurement, enterprise risk management, and future insight and innovation. Key duties include reviewing documents and conducting research to aid in the development and management of corporate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The intern will assist in building, processing, and organizing survey data for evidence-based decision-making. Responsibilities also involve supporting the development of dashboards and visualizations for senior management, assisting with ad-hoc analysis and reporting by validating and organizing datasets, and maintaining the Performance Measurement Dashboard. Additionally, the intern will support the transition to automated data pipelines in the Microsoft Azure cloud environment and conduct research to prepare background documents.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a relevant university degree. Proficiency in standard software applications and strong knowledge of analytics and presentation tools are necessary. The ability to draft articles and make concise notes is desirable.
