Organizational Context
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Representation Office to the European Union in Brussels seeks an intern to support its mission of protecting human rights globally. The intern will join a team of three professionals within the Donor and External Relations Section, contributing to OHCHR's engagement with EU external action priorities and funding opportunities.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the OHCHR's mission by assisting the Donor and External Relations Section in Brussels. The role involves contributing to donor intelligence and strategy by researching EU external action priorities and funding opportunities relevant to human rights. It also supports resource mobilization efforts through proposal preparation and maintaining relationships with European institutions. Furthermore, the intern will aid in managing the EU project portfolio, ensuring timely monitoring and reporting on funded projects, and contributing to the development of new project proposals. The position offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in international human rights advocacy and resource management within a key UN body.
Responsibilities
The intern will research and prepare reports, briefing notes, and other documents on donor intelligence, focusing on fundraising possibilities related to human rights, climate change, and environmental issues, with attention to the European External Action Service and European Parliament activities. Responsibilities include supporting project implementation by assisting with timely monitoring and reporting on selected EU-funded projects, in coordination with headquarters and field units. The intern will also contribute to the preparation of high-quality project proposals and related information for EU funding negotiations. Additionally, the role involves attending relevant meetings and consultations with partners, representing OHCHR, and engaging in public presentations as needed. Other duties as assigned by the Office Team will also be part of the role.
Work Experience
No prior work experience is required for this internship. However, any previous internship or work experience within the UN, an NGO, or the private sector would be considered an asset. The applicant's training, education, coursework, or skills should be beneficial to the United Nations during the internship period.
Skills
Research and report preparation, donor intelligence analysis, resource mobilization support, project implementation monitoring, proposal writing, communication, relationship building with European institutions, fluency in English, knowledge of French (asset), knowledge of other UN official languages (advantage).
