Disability Inclusion Consultant
Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat, through the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), supports member states in adopting a rights-based approach to social development. ESCWA possesses extensive knowledge and networks on disability issues in the Arab region, monitoring CRPD and SDG implementation and delivering expert meetings.
Job Purpose
This role serves as a Disability Inclusion Consultant, providing crucial technical assistance to Kuwait in collaboration with the ESCWA disability team. The purpose is to enhance disability inclusion efforts by developing training materials, facilitating workshops on CRPD obligations and human rights-based data collection, and offering expert feedback on national action plans. The consultant will contribute to ESCWA's mandate of supporting member states towards equitable and inclusive development, aligning with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct desk reviews of relevant documents, including ESCWA's Disability Mainstreaming Tool and national reports. Responsibilities include developing training methodologies, practical exercises, and presentations focused on CRPD legal obligations, human rights-based data collection, and treaty response simulations. The role involves leading and delivering technical training sessions on the CRPD, coordinating with the ESCWA team, and contributing to workshop reports, evaluations, and outcomes. Additionally, the consultant will review and provide feedback on Kuwait's institutional action plan for disability inclusion.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of proven work experience is required. This experience should be related to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), disability inclusion, research, policy development, and program mainstreaming within the Arab region.
Skills
Fluency in English and Arabic is required. Experience with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), disability inclusion, research, policy, and program mainstreaming in the Arab region is essential. Skills in developing training materials, facilitating workshops, and providing technical feedback are also necessary.
