Job Purpose
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to support the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) Secretariat, specifically the High-level Committee on Programmes (HLCP). The intern will monitor and analyze the work of UN intergovernmental bodies, contribute to the preparation of CEB and HLCP meetings, and assist in drafting communications and website content. This position provides practical experience in inter-agency coordination, policy coherence, and understanding the strategic priorities of the UN system, contributing to the advancement of cooperation and knowledge sharing on system-wide concerns.
Responsibilities
The intern will conduct research and analysis on strategic issues for the UN system, including sustainable development, global governance, UN reform, poverty eradication, and climate change. Responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing current affairs relevant to HLCP workstreams, such as future UN preparedness and the post-2030 agenda. The role involves assisting in the monitoring and analysis of UN intergovernmental bodies, including the General Assembly and ECOSOC. The intern will contribute to the substantive and organizational preparation of CEB and HLCP meetings, draft correspondence and communications, and create content for the CEB corporate website. Other tasks as required will also be undertaken.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, experience or exposure to UN system-wide coordination, policy-making, and decision-making is advantageous. Exposure to the interlinkages between peace and security, human rights, and sustainable development, or current challenges facing the multilateral system, would be an asset. Demonstrated ability to draft/edit summaries in English is desirable.
Skills
Research and analysis, current affairs monitoring, intergovernmental body analysis, meeting preparation (substantive and organizational), drafting correspondence and communications, content creation, strong written and verbal English communication skills. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
