Job Purpose
This role provides essential support to a staff member with a visual disability within the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in Bangkok, Thailand. The primary purpose is to ensure the staff member's full and equal participation in all work-related activities by facilitating access to information, systems, and environments. This involves leveraging technology and providing direct assistance to overcome accessibility barriers, thereby enabling seamless workflow and contribution to UNDRR's mission in disaster risk reduction and disability inclusion at regional and global levels.
Responsibilities
The Workplace and Accessibility Assistant will provide comprehensive support to a staff member with a visual disability. Key duties include ensuring access to information systems and digital platforms by converting materials into accessible formats and facilitating the use of assistive technologies. The role involves enabling full participation in meetings through real-time verbal descriptions, advance preparation of materials, and providing structured notes. Mobility and travel support within the workplace and during travel are also crucial. Additionally, the assistant will manage documentation, maintain records, conduct accessibility briefings, schedule meetings, manage calendars, and coordinate travel arrangements, ensuring all documents meet accessibility and organizational standards.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of experience in workplace assistance, accessibility support, administrative support, or a related field in a professional environment is required. Experience with Office 365, supporting individuals with visual disabilities, and drafting/proofreading documentation in English is desirable.
