Organizational Context
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in Valencia, Spain, provides critical services including Supply Chain, Geospatial, and IT to UN missions worldwide. This internship is within the Technology Development Unit (TDU), focusing on innovation and technology development to support UNGSC's global operations and peacekeeping missions.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Digital Technology Training Development project within the UNGSC's Technology Development Unit. The intern will contribute to the development, testing, and validation of AI-based tools for drone digital forensics and assist in the design and iterative development of a 3D-printed drone. The role offers hands-on experience in cutting-edge technology applications within a UN peacekeeping support context, fostering learning and making a tangible impact on UNGSC's technological capabilities.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include researching Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and counter-UAS technologies for forensics and training applications. The intern will assist in developing, testing, and validating AI-based tools for drone forensics, and evaluating AI model performance on drone data. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the design, assembly, and iterative development of a 3D-printed drone platform, participating in system testing, and maintaining technical documentation. The intern will also report progress, coordinate updates with stakeholders, and support other TDU technology development activities.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field is essential. Familiarity with standard software applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams) is necessary. Desirable experience includes knowledge of open-source AI tools and AI-based drone forensics tools.
