Job Purpose
This internship supports the 3D Print as a Service (3DPaaS) project at the UNGSC in Valencia. The role's purpose is to contribute to simplifying spare parts procurement for UN field missions through additive printing. This initiative streamlines supply chains by enabling on-demand, localized production. The intern will gain practical experience in 3D design, printing, website maintenance, project planning, workflow evaluation, and sustainability initiatives, while also learning about the UN's operations. The position offers a six-month, full-time, unpaid opportunity to work as a team member on impactful projects and develop professional skills within a global organization.
Responsibilities
Assist in designing 3D models using CAD/CAM software and preparing models for printing with slicing software, optimizing for FDM and SLA technologies. Support 3D scanning processes and contribute to prototyping projects for various applications. Maintain the 3D Printing-as-a-Service website, including content updates and basic troubleshooting. Aid in planning 3D technology projects by developing project plans, timelines, and resource needs. Evaluate and enhance 3D printing workflows, documenting best practices and recommending Industry 4.0 technologies. Support plastic waste recycling initiatives by processing waste into filament and tracking materials. Engage in preparing workshops and events to promote 3D printing technologies.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to 3D printing and additive manufacturing is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such a program. Computer literacy in standard software applications is essential.
