Organizational Context
This Research Assistant position is within the Division for Gender Affairs of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), a regional commission of the United Nations. ECLAC contributes to the economic and social development of the region through policy design, monitoring, evaluation, advisory services, and support for regional cooperation. The role reports to a Social Affairs Officer.
Job Purpose
The Research Assistant will support the Division for Gender Affairs by conducting research, compiling data, and analyzing information related to gender equality, women's rights, and public policy development. This role involves monitoring relevant issues, evaluating analytical materials, and maintaining policy documentation. The incumbent will prepare reports, presentations, and summaries to aid senior officers in policy discussions and decision-making. Additionally, the Research Assistant will assist in data collection and analysis, prepare data visualizations, update information materials, and provide guidance to junior staff, contributing to the division's objectives and knowledge management efforts.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include researching, compiling, and organizing technical data on gender equality, women's rights, and related policy issues. The role involves monitoring developments by collecting and analyzing materials from various sources, and evaluating policy-related information for accuracy. The Research Assistant will maintain repositories of policy documentation and prepare reports, presentations, and data visualizations for senior officers. Duties also encompass drafting meeting summaries, collecting and disseminating relevant UN and media information, and providing guidance to junior staff. The position supports data analysis, preparation of data presentations, and updating information materials like web pages.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in research and analysis of social development and gender equality policies is required. This requirement is reduced to three years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience supporting the organization of regional intergovernmental meetings and data analytics is desirable.
