Consultant to support technical coordination in the publication of the ECA Journal of African Transformation and related initiatives

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), a UN regional commission, promotes sustainable development in Africa. Its vision is to generate ideas for Africa's prosperity, focusing on economic diversification and transformation aligned with global and continental agendas. The ECA functions as a think tank, convening body, and operational entity, conducting research and analysis to support policy formulation and decision-making across the continent.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide essential technical coordination for the publication of the ECA Journal of African Transformation and related initiatives. The role involves supporting the production of six journal editions, managing the publication process from manuscript solicitation to final publication. The purpose is to ensure the journal effectively serves as a high-quality platform for African academics, researchers, and professionals to disseminate cutting-edge research on African development issues to a wide audience, including governments, development organizations, and academic institutions, thereby contributing to policy formulation and the continent's development agenda.
Responsibilities
The consultant will solicit manuscripts and papers for publication, perform initial reviews to assess suitability, and ensure the journal's content meets high standards of accuracy, validity, and relevance. Key duties include selecting and assigning expert peer reviewers, monitoring the review process, and submitting reviewed articles for final consideration. The role also involves scheduling accepted manuscripts, liaising with the production team for editing, design, and layout, and coordinating with guest editors and editorial assistants. Additionally, the consultant may attend Editorial Board meetings and support associated initiatives related to policy research and knowledge sharing.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of experience is required in areas such as communication, knowledge management, scholarly publishing, or editorial work. Experience within academia, research institutions, international organizations, or public service is expected. A proven track record of publishing on African development issues and previous journal editing experience are highly desirable.
