Job Purpose
This role supports the Budget and Financial Management Services (BFMS) at UNON, contributing to efficient financial operations. The primary purpose is to assist in budgeting and accounting functions, ensuring compliance with UN financial rules and regulations. This involves data collection, budget proposal preparation, monitoring budget implementation, processing financial documents, and reconciling accounts. The role also entails responding to client queries, maintaining accounting systems, and preparing reports. By ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial policies, the position directly supports the effective management of UNON's financial resources and program delivery, contributing to the overall mission of the organization.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities encompass both budgeting and accounting functions. In budgeting, duties include assisting with data collection for cost estimates and budget proposals, monitoring budget implementation, ensuring requisitions align with budgets, reviewing position requests, managing cost recovery, and preparing open commitment reports. For accounting, tasks involve processing financial documents (accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable), auditing transactions for accuracy and compliance, scrutinizing supporting documents, processing accounting adjustments, analyzing Open Item Managed accounts, and reconciling general and subledger accounts. General duties include document distribution, responding to queries, maintaining accounting systems, data analysis for reporting, assisting with billing data, and performing backup duties for colleagues. The role may also involve supervising junior staff and updating information materials.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in finance, budget, program management, or data analysis is required. This requirement is reduced to three years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP) and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) is desirable. One year of experience in data analytics is also desirable.
