Event coordination Specialist
Organizational Context
The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) secretariat is seeking an event coordination consultant. This role will support the communications activities for a flagship initiative and its dedicated Pavilion during the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The consultant will work under the Global Mechanism in close collaboration with the Communications, External Relations and Partnerships Unit.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this consultancy is to organize and coordinate a Pavilion during UNCCD COP17, ensuring its successful preparation and delivery. This involves developing a strategic Pavilion programme and managing all logistical aspects. The role contributes to the UNCCD's objective of combating desertification and mitigating drought effects by enhancing the visibility and impact of a key initiative. The consultant will be responsible for the overall coordination, working closely with relevant units and stakeholders to align event outcomes with the Pavilion's narrative and objectives, ultimately supporting sustainable development in affected areas.
Responsibilities
The Event Coordination Specialist will be responsible for comprehensive event planning and coordination, including managing logistics for the Pavilion's setup and operation in Ulaanbaatar. This involves developing a strategic Pavilion programme, selecting and curating side events, and defining the overall event strategy, concept, format, and timeline. The role requires coordinating daily thematic priorities and ensuring their visibility. On-site, the specialist will manage daily run-of-show schedules, brief and support speakers and moderators, and oversee the smooth execution of all Pavilion activities. A key responsibility is also the preparation of a comprehensive post-event report detailing key outcomes, highlights, and recommendations.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of work experience in communication, event coordination, public relations, or a related field is required. Demonstrated experience in organizing events within United Nations settings, particularly Conference of Parties, is essential. Experience working with diverse teams, including virtually, is also necessary.
