This role sits within UNEP's Mining Unit, which focuses on responsible mining and sustainable resource use, including efficiency and circularity.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support UNEP's Mining Unit in advancing environmental sustainability in the minerals and metals sector. The role will contribute to managing the Digital Knowledge Hub, developing training materials on governance, value chains, and circularity, and supporting industry engagement. Key contributions include assisting with project proposals, synthesizing insights from consultations, developing business cases, and preparing communication materials to foster international cooperation and knowledge sharing on environmentally sound mineral and metal management, particularly for developing countries.
Responsibilities
Manage the Digital Knowledge Hub on Environmental Aspects of Minerals and Metals, ensuring resource updates and stakeholder liaison. Develop webinars and training on priority areas like governance, value chain aspects, tailings, mine closure, and circularity. Support the creation of a quarterly newsletter and assist in drafting project proposals. Synthesize insights and lessons learned from industry actor consultations and support the development of business case reports based on industry engagement. Prepare background documents, briefs, meeting summaries, and communication materials as requested, with a specific focus on strengthening engagement with the Africa region.
Work Experience
Requires at least three years of demonstrated experience in the mining sector, environmental protection, or related fields. Previous experience in project management is desirable. Experience working with international organizations and the private sector is considered an advantage.
