Diversity and Outreach Intern

Organizational Context

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), within the UN Secretariat, hosts this internship in its Recruitment Services Unit (RSU), Human Resources Management Section (HRMS). The RSU is part of the Administration and Conference Management Division (ACMD). This role supports the unit's efforts in inclusive outreach and diversity initiatives.

Job Purpose

This internship aims to support the Recruitment Services Unit at the UN Economic Commission for Africa in enhancing its diversity and inclusion efforts. The intern will contribute to identifying outreach opportunities, drafting inclusive communications, and researching best practices in inclusive recruitment. Key contributions include developing knowledge products on diversity, assisting in recommendations for accessible workplaces, and supporting the planning of awareness campaigns. The role is designed to provide practical experience in human resources, with a focus on promoting a diverse and inclusive environment within the organization, aligning with UN principles of mutual respect and equal opportunity.

Responsibilities

The intern will support inclusive outreach and engagement by identifying networks and organizations representing underrepresented groups, drafting accessible outreach messages for job openings, and maintaining outreach contact lists. Responsibilities also include conducting research on inclusive recruitment and internship practices, and contributing to knowledge products on diversity. The intern will assist in developing recommendations for accessible work environments and tools, and support activities promoting disability inclusion awareness. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the planning and organization of outreach events, webinars, and awareness campaigns focused on inclusion and diversity.
