Transnational Organized Crime Specialist Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (ROSEAP) in Bangkok, Thailand, is seeking an intern to support its work on transnational organized crime. This is an unpaid, full-time, six-month internship.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the UNODC ROSEAP in Bangkok on issues related to transnational organized crime. The intern will conduct research, monitor developments, prepare briefing notes and reports, and assist in organizing meetings and coordinating with stakeholders. This role contributes to the UNODC's mandate of promoting security and justice by tackling illicit drugs, crime, and terrorism. The intern will gain practical experience in research, analysis, and project support within an international organization focused on combating organized crime in the Southeast Asia and Mekong sub-region.
Responsibilities
Conduct desk research and data collection on transnational organized crime trends, including drug trafficking, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, wildlife crime, arms trafficking, and money laundering in the region. Monitor and summarize relevant news, reports, and publications on organized crime developments, preparing briefing notes for the Regional Representative. Support the preparation of analytical reports, policy briefs, and presentations. Assist in reviewing international and regional legal frameworks and policy developments related to transnational organized crime. Help organize high-level meetings, consultations, and conferences, including drafting agendas and background documents. Support coordination and liaison with Member States and partner agencies. Draft correspondence and internal communications. Provide general research, analytical, and administrative support.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have recently completed a relevant university degree. A field of study closely related to transnational organized crime, criminology, or investigation is essential.
Skills
Research and data collection, analytical skills, report writing, monitoring and summarizing information, organizational support, coordination and liaison, communication (oral and written English), proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
