Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (ROSEAP) provides technical assistance to governments in the region. It serves as the Secretariat for the Memorandum of Understanding on Drug Control in the Greater Mekong Subregion (Mekong MOU), offering strategic and technical support to drug control authorities. This internship is based in Bangkok, Thailand.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide support to the UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, specifically within the Secretariat of the Mekong MOU. The intern will assist in the organization and coordination of activities and events, contributing to the office's mandate of enhancing capacity in law enforcement, justice, and health authorities. The role involves supporting program activities, communications, research, and drug trend analysis, thereby contributing to regional drug control efforts and the visibility of UNODC's work in the Mekong subregion. The intern will report to the Regional Coordinator of the Mekong MOU.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include drafting program-related correspondence and concept notes, providing translation and interpretation between English and Chinese, and preparing meeting documents and minutes. The intern will also design and summarize evaluation forms, draft activity reports, and support the development of web stories, social media content, and advocacy materials. Additional duties involve conducting research on drug control trends and legislative developments, collecting and analyzing drug seizure data for trend reports, and providing general administrative and programmatic support to the Regional Office.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a relevant field of study is necessary. Proficiency in standard software applications such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required. The ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable.
