Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa seeks interns to support the Climate Change, Food Security & Natural Resources Division. Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in climate change, food security, and natural resources within the UN system. Interns will support the Climate Change, Food Security & Natural Resources Division at UNECA by assisting in the development and promotion of climate-response policies, plans, and programmes. A key aspect of the role may involve contributing to preparations for COP32. The internship offers an opportunity to gain exposure to cross-cutting themes within the division and contribute to its day-to-day operational tasks, including research, documentation, and event organization, fostering professional development in international affairs and sustainable development.
Responsibilities
Interns will assist in conducting research on climate-related themes and contribute to drafting and editing publications, briefs, and other documents. They will support database maintenance and track project negotiation and implementation. Responsibilities also include participating in the organization of meetings and events, assisting with outreach activities, and specifically aiding in preparations for COP32. Interns will engage in the division's daily operational tasks, which may involve developing presentations and liaising with partner organizations. Additionally, they will contribute to assigned administrative tasks and participate in meetings, including drafting minutes.
Work Experience
No specific years of work experience are mandated, but interns will be expected to contribute to research, drafting, database maintenance, project tracking, event organization, and administrative tasks under supervision. Experience in climate change, policy, development, or international relations is beneficial.
