Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Geneva seeks an intern to support the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC). This office-based, six-month internship focuses on developing high-level indicators for chemicals and waste, contributing to UNEP's strategic objectives and the upcoming GFC International Conference.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in environmental data management and indicator development within the UN system. The intern will contribute to creating a high-level indicator for the environmental burden of chemicals and waste, supporting testing, data collection, analysis, and visualization. Additionally, the role involves assisting with data validation and preparation for the GFC International Conference, contributing to documentation, and supporting the event's delivery. The position offers exposure to international environmental policy and data-driven decision-making processes.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the development of a high-level indicator on the environmental burden of chemicals and waste, including testing, prototype development, data collection, curation, consolidation, analysis, and visualization. Support target indicator work for the GFC's Strategic Objectives through data collection, validation, curation, and preparation for the 1st GFC International Conference. Assist in preparing relevant documentation, including drafts and background materials, for the conference. Provide support for the delivery of the first GFC International Conference.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a strong interest in data management, including basic data collection, organization, and quality control, is expected. Familiarity with standard office applications is necessary, with experience or interest in data visualization being an asset.
