Marketing - Public Information Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City serves as the primary information hub for Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. It promotes understanding of the Secretary-General's priorities and the UN's impact, while leading communications and advocacy for the UN Country Team and Resident Coordination Office. This internship is based in Mexico City.
Job Purpose
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the United Nations Department of Global Communications' mission by supporting the UNIC Mexico's communication and advocacy efforts. The intern will play a key role in developing and implementing communication plans, promoting UN initiatives like the SDG Book Club and Information Integrity, and assisting in content creation for various platforms. This role is crucial for enhancing the UN's visibility and impact in the region, fostering better understanding of its work and priorities among diverse audiences, and contributing to inter-agency efforts against misinformation.
Responsibilities
Assist in developing and executing communication plans for key UN initiatives, including the UN Mexico Results Report, targeting specific audiences with tailored content such as human-interest stories and news articles. Contribute to the promotion and dissemination of programs like the SDG Book Club, Mexico Chapter, by engaging with stakeholders including publishers, authors, and educational institutions. Support the design and implementation of strategies to advance Information Integrity in Mexico, aligning with global and country-level UN priorities. Monitor misinformation trends and potential reputational risks for the UN. Participate in inter-agency efforts to combat misinformation and hate speech, including support for climate change declarations and major events like the FIFA World Cup 2026. Create and maintain databases for relevant communities of practice and assist in needs assessments for communication capacities. Develop communication tools and training materials to improve UN system-wide communication effectiveness. Generate public information content for web, social media, and media outlets, ensuring alignment with UN International Days and country priorities. Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants are expected to have a good working knowledge of standard office software applications and multimedia production tools. The ability to draft and edit news articles, press releases, and engaging social media content is essential. A demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to its ideals are also important.
