The International Trade Centre (ITC), a joint agency of the UN and WTO, supports SME internationalization and sustainable development. This role is within the "Ethiopia & Ghana: Strengthening digital trade and agritech market systems" project, focusing on an inception phase to assess digital trade ecosystems in Ghana. The consultant will lead the country-level Environmental and Climate Assessment.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to conduct a comprehensive Environmental and Climate Assessment for Ghana's digital services market. This involves identifying key environmental risks, climate vulnerabilities, and market opportunities, and analyzing their implications for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and digital solutions. The assessment will inform the design and scope of a future multi-year digital trade support program by providing evidence-driven insights and actionable recommendations for climate and environmental mainstreaming, including pilot interventions. The consultant will lead desk research, stakeholder consultations, substantive analysis, and report preparation, contributing to the project's adaptive and partner-led approach.
Responsibilities
The consultant will lead the Environmental and Climate Assessment for Ghana, conducting desk research and stakeholder consultations to analyze environmental risks, climate vulnerabilities, and opportunities within the digital ecosystems. This includes applying an agreed analytical framework to identify and assess risks and opportunities across the value chain, evaluating their impact on MSMEs and digital solutions, and proposing interventions to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities. The role involves consolidating findings into a detailed report (15-20 pages) covering climate trends, risk/opportunity mapping, impact analysis, and recommendations for mainstreaming climate and environmental considerations. The consultant will also ensure the report's analytical quality, incorporate feedback, and contribute to presentations, while coordinating with the project team and participating in regular calls.
Work Experience
Requires at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in climate change, environmental sustainability, trade, or private sector development. Experience with Ghana's digital economy, international organizations, development programs, analytical research, and report writing is essential. Experience in climate risk analysis, stakeholder consultations, and qualitative research is also required.
