Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. This internship is situated within ROAS, supporting its regional mandate and programmatic activities.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States in Cairo. The intern will contribute to programme development through research, analysis, and presentation of key urban development issues. The role involves assisting in engagement with member states and regional bodies, researching the impact of crises on urban settlements, and mapping strategic priorities. The intern will also help monitor regional developments, support programme tasks, and contribute to UN-Habitat's representation and engagement in regional mechanisms, ultimately aiding in the achievement of sustainable urban development goals across the Arab region.
Responsibilities
Assist in programme development by conducting research, analysis, and presenting key issues related to sustainable urban development. Support UN-Habitat's engagement with member states and regional intergovernmental bodies, tracking priorities and follow-up actions. Research and analyze the impact of regional crises on urban development and programmatic priorities. Contribute to identifying and mapping strategic priorities of governments and Country Offices to inform UN-Habitat's positioning. Monitor and document relevant regional political and humanitarian developments. Support the timely delivery of programme tasks and UN-Habitat's effective representation in regional mechanisms. Map relevant partners, donors, and stakeholders. Conduct literature reviews on thematic issues and support the drafting of presentations and concept notes. Track project schedules, deadlines, and action points. Coordinate data collection, verification, and submission from regional colleagues and partners. Record meeting minutes and action points. Provide logistical support for activities such as conferences and events.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Experience in project management, research, proposal development, or event organizing is considered desirable.
