Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to develop and implement a regional Ecosystem Indicator Monitoring Framework (EIMF) for the Western Indian Ocean. The role will strengthen participating countries' capacity to monitor and report on ecosystem indicators, improve regional coordination, and enhance reporting on marine and coastal ecosystem status and trends within the Nairobi Convention area. The consultant will facilitate expert meetings, finalize the EIMF, develop training materials, and lead workshops to build national capacity for EIMF implementation.
Responsibilities
The consultant will collaborate with the Nairobi Convention Secretariat to prepare and lead a regional expert meeting to finalize EIMF indicators and achieve consensus. Responsibilities include finalizing the EIMF document, incorporating global ocean indicators, developing training materials for national implementation, and leading two workshops to build capacity among regional experts and national authorities. The role involves stakeholder engagement at strategic and technical levels and ensuring timely delivery of quality assignments.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in regional marine and coastal-related projects at a technical level is required. Experience working with governments in the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region and stakeholder engagement for ecosystem monitoring and ocean governance is also necessary.
