Job Purpose
The Telecommunications Assistant will play a crucial role in implementing a finite, deliverables-based infrastructure upgrade project for UNTSO in Jerusalem. The primary purpose of this role is to execute the technical tasks required for modernizing radio communication systems, establishing redundant satellite connectivity, integrating radio tracking, enhancing surveillance systems, and deploying IoT-based monitoring solutions for water and power. This position directly contributes to ensuring reliable communication services and operational efficiency for the mission over an expected duration of 5.5 months, supporting mission continuity and enhanced situational awareness.
Responsibilities
The Telecommunications Assistant is responsible for the successful execution of several key tasks within the infrastructure upgrade project. This includes replacing fixed VHF radios (7 units) and handheld radios (100 units), along with vehicle radios and antennas (40 units), ensuring functional transmission, reception, and proper configuration. The role also involves installing, configuring, and integrating redundant satellite connectivity (VSAT + Starlink) to ensure mission communication continuity. Additionally, responsibilities include upgrading MOTOTRBO Radio Manager and TRBOnet Plus systems, integrating TrboNet Plus with UNGSC UNITE Aware for tracking, and upgrading the Jerusalem HQ CCTV system. The assistant will also perform fiber optic backbone repair, deploy IoT-based water and power monitoring systems, and ensure the full integration of all upgraded systems, culminating in the preparation of comprehensive technical documentation and equipment for write-off.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of one year of hands-on experience with IT and Communications support services. Experience with VHF radios, VSAT, microwave links, fiber optics, structured cabling, and Avigilon CCTV systems is essential. Experience installing and maintaining large UPS (up to 20kVA) and power systems is also required. Proficiency in video conferencing tools is desirable.
