Organizational Context
The Asian and Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT/ESCAP) is a regional institute of the UN ESCAP, located in Incheon, Republic of Korea. Its mission is to strengthen member states' use of ICT for socio-economic development through capacity-building. The Centre focuses on Training, Research, Knowledge-Sharing, and Advisory Services, integrating these pillars for ICT human capacity development.
Job Purpose
This internship at APCICT/ESCAP in Incheon, Republic of Korea, offers an opportunity to contribute to the Centre's mission of leveraging ICT for socio-economic development in Asia and the Pacific. The intern will support various program management activities, including document preparation, meeting support, data collection, and research. This role provides hands-on experience in international development, capacity building, and the practical application of ICT policies and trends. The internship aims to enhance the intern's understanding of UN operational frameworks and contribute to the Centre's outreach and project implementation efforts, benefiting from direct supervision and engagement with staff.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist in drafting and preparing official documents, and attend/summarize conferences and expert group meetings. Key duties include supporting the organization of meetings and conferences, and collecting data on ICT trends and policies. The role involves conducting research and providing analysis on relevant issues, as well as assisting in the preparation of background documents, reports, issue briefs, and presentations. Additionally, the intern will monitor regional and global news for ICT for development-related stories, support project implementation, and help maintain databases. The position requires performing additional duties as assigned to support the Centre's programmatic activities.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a strong interest in project implementation and capacity building is considered a definite advantage. The focus is on the applicant's educational background and potential to benefit from the UN's internship program.
