The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) leads the global environmental agenda and promotes sustainable development. Its International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) is a data-driven initiative focused on reducing methane emissions to meet Paris Agreement goals. This role supports the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0), a key initiative for improving methane reporting within the oil and gas sector.
Job Purpose
This consultancy role serves as the focal point for the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership 2.0 (OGMP 2.0) within the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO). The primary purpose is to support the coordination and integration of methane emissions data from member companies. This involves performing coverage analysis, ensuring data quality, liaising with companies and the IMEO team, providing feedback on reporting, and contributing to annual reports and fact sheets. The role is crucial for harnessing the methane data revolution and providing reliable data to cut emissions, thereby contributing to the achievement of the Paris Agreement goals and shaping the future of methane mitigation efforts.
Responsibilities
Serve as the focal point for OGMP 2.0 data analysis and integration. Perform analysis of OGMP 2.0 coverage across various segments of the oil and gas value chain. Provide ongoing support for the OGMP 2.0 database and coordinate responses to data analysis requests. Support the analysis of companies' data reports, offering constructive feedback and contributing to mentoring new staff. Aggregate OGMP 2.0 company data for annual reports and liaise with companies regarding data for public release. Analyze emissions data to identify patterns, quality gaps, and inconsistencies. Develop data quality assurance protocols and support data acquisition. Assist with OGMP 2.0 MARS data connections and support Data Integration and Digital Products teams with OGMP 2.0 data and analytics.
Work Experience
A minimum of four years of proven work experience in partnership management and/or methane emissions quantification and reporting is required. Familiarity with the oil and gas sector and the United Nations system is considered a plus.
