Organizational Context
This internship is within the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS) of the UN Secretariat's DPPA-DPO Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office. JCS acts as a center of expertise on justice, corrections, and rule of law, supporting UN peace operations and assisting host countries with essential services, justice system strengthening, and rule of law reforms.
Job Purpose
The Public Information Intern will support the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS) by enhancing its strategic communication and public outreach efforts. This role involves developing and designing multimedia products for web and social media, creating engaging content to raise awareness about justice and corrections issues, and assisting with the drafting and editing of JCS publications. The intern will also conceptualize data visualizations, research and draft social media content, and monitor social media analytics to inform communication strategies. This position contributes to increasing understanding and visibility of the UN's work in rule of law and security institutions within peacekeeping contexts.
Responsibilities
Assist the Justice and Corrections Service (JCS) with strategic communication and public outreach on rule of law, security institutions, and justice/corrections in peacekeeping. Develop and design communications and multimedia products for web and social networking platforms. Create content for JCS stories to enhance awareness and understanding of justice and corrections issues. Draft and edit JCS publications, including fact sheets, brochures, newsletters, and donor updates. Conceptualize and create data visualizations and interactive content using design software. Research, compile, and draft information for social media content production. Monitor and analyze social media statistics and web analytics. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a relevant university degree program. Familiarity with standard software applications such as MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams is expected.
