The Human Resources Section of the UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) in Arusha, Tanzania, is offering an unpaid, full-time internship. The Mechanism performs essential functions previously handled by the ICTR and ICTY, upholding their legacies and international criminal justice best practices.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience within the Mechanism's Human Resources Section. The intern will manage the Internship Programme, serving as the primary contact for inquiries, handling correspondence, preparing offer letters, and processing documentation. This role supports the smooth operation of the internship program and assists the HR Section with various administrative tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency of HR operations and fostering positive relationships with candidates and staff.
Responsibilities
Manage the Internship Programme, acting as the main point of contact for all internal and external internship-related inquiries. Draft correspondence and handle telephone inquiries efficiently. Prepare internship offer letters and meticulously follow up on all required documentation. Keep departments informed about the status of applications. Provide comprehensive induction briefings for new interns. Process check-outs for departing interns and maintain accurate database records. Ensure a positive and smooth working relationship with potential candidates, current interns, and Mechanism staff members. Assist the Human Resources Section with additional ad-hoc duties as required.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, previous experience in Human Resources management or Administration is considered desirable. A strong understanding of standard software applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint, is necessary.
Skills
Communication skills (written and verbal), organizational skills, interpersonal skills, proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
