Job Purpose
This internship at the ECLAC Washington Office aims to support the office's research agenda and contribute to ongoing analytical and operational activities. The intern will conduct research on critical economic topics relevant to Latin America and the Caribbean, such as international financing for sustainable development, trade, geopolitical impacts, and macroeconomic trends. The role involves synthesizing academic and policy literature, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing reports. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in economic research and policy analysis within a UN context, contributing to the understanding and addressing of regional development challenges.
Responsibilities
Conduct research on topics including international financing for sustainable development, trade and geopolitical developments, and macroeconomic trends affecting Latin America and the Caribbean. Perform literature reviews to assess the current state of research and its implications for the region. Summarize, synthesize, and analyze academic papers, policy reports, and publications. Collect and compile information from official country sources, specialized agencies, and databases. Review, organize, and analyze collected data, prepare reports, update databases, and develop supporting tables, graphs, and charts. Participate in team meetings and contribute to ongoing analytical work. Attend relevant conferences, webinars, and seminars, preparing briefing notes as needed. Provide support for the day-to-day activities of the Office.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a relevant field of study is necessary. Applicants must be students in the final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such a program.
Skills
Research and analytical skills, ability to synthesize information, data collection and analysis, report preparation, proficiency in MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, strong written and spoken English communication.
