Job Purpose
The Associate Liaison Officer's primary purpose is to assist the Senior Political Affairs Officer in executing the Mission's mandate for liaison and reintegration efforts. This involves gathering and analyzing information on political events, maintaining knowledge of trends affecting reintegration, and advising UNVMC components and UN agencies. The role promotes strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including government entities, UN agencies, and international organizations, to ensure coordinated policy matters and effective implementation of reintegration plans. The position also supports the maintenance of databases and prepares for high-level meetings, ensuring adherence to UNVMC policies and a gender-sensitive approach.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include gathering, selecting, and analyzing information from various sources, including press on relevant topics. The role requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge of political events impacting reintegration, with a focus on gender and vulnerable populations. The Associate Liaison Officer will monitor national and regional political developments, providing advice to UNVMC components and UN agencies on reintegration issues. Promoting strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders and coordinating with UN entities and international organizations is crucial. The position involves monitoring actions of intergovernmental groups and NGOs, participating in fact-finding missions, and supporting database maintenance for reintegration plan progress. Additionally, the role includes preparing for meetings with host country officials and ensuring adherence to UNVMC policies and a gender-sensitive approach.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, or conflict resolution is required. Experience in monitoring reintegration and socio-economic development in complex field locations, supporting the Colombia peace process, working on former combatant reintegration, and data collection/analysis are desirable.
