Organizational Context

The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) drives the UN Secretariat's digital transformation, delivering secure and innovative technology solutions. This role is within the Enterprise Solutions Service (OICT/ESS), hosted by the UN Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre in Deqing, China, contributing to a wide range of enterprise solutions.

Job Purpose

This role contributes to the UN Secretariat's digital transformation by developing and supporting enterprise solutions. The purpose is to design, program, test, debug, and implement new applications, particularly those with Geospatial and/or AI components, adhering to UN standards. The position involves preparing technical and user documentation, conducting training, providing application support, and staying updated with technological advancements. The goal is to enhance the quality and functionality of deployed applications, ensuring they effectively support the UN's mission and objectives through reliable and innovative technology.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include participating in the full lifecycle development of new applications, with a focus on Geospatial and AI components, using UN established standards. This involves programming, testing, debugging, and implementation. The role requires preparing comprehensive technical and user documentation, developing training materials, and conducting technical presentations. Additionally, providing 3rd level application support, including version management and troubleshooting, is essential. Continuous engagement with users and developers for feedback and request fulfillment is expected. Staying current with industry developments, performing benchmarking, and proposing new tools and libraries are also part of the duties.

Work Experience

Requires 3+ years of hands-on experience in building web applications with React and .NET Core. Essential experience includes 3+ years with JavaScript/TypeScript, 3+ years with C#, and 3+ years with SQL and REST API. Experience with Azure Functions is desirable. The ability to travel abroad for projects is also noted.
