Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a Short-Lived Climate Pollutant (SLCP) Coordinator in Brazil. This role supports the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (SQA/MMA) in coordinating SLCP initiatives and promoting an integrated climate and clean air approach. The position is part of the CCAC Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator, aiming to strengthen Brazil's capacity in SLCP mitigation.
Job Purpose
The SLCP Coordinator will lead the day-to-day coordination of the SLCP unit's activities and initiatives within Brazil's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (SQA/MMA). The role is crucial for promoting an integrated climate and clean air strategy, ensuring alignment with national policies and the CCAC Accelerator goals. The coordinator will oversee the portfolio of initiatives, monitor progress, foster partnerships, and facilitate coordination across ministries and stakeholders to advance SLCP mitigation. This position supports Brazil's commitment to reducing short-lived climate pollutants and achieving its climate targets, contributing to the effective implementation of the Clean Air and Climate Plan and strengthening the country's SLCP governance framework.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting SQA/MMA with the daily coordination of SLCP projects and initiatives in Brazil, monitoring workplans, and identifying solutions to operational challenges. The role involves coordinating team members, ensuring effective task distribution, and maintaining smooth daily operations of the SLCP Unit. The coordinator will ensure alignment with CCAC Accelerator goals and KPIs, facilitate interministerial coordination, and foster strategic collaborations within the Ministry. Additionally, the position requires identifying and strengthening partnerships with national and sub-national stakeholders, supporting the implementation of the Clean Air and Climate Plan, and promoting alignment between SLCP policies and other national frameworks like Brazil's Climate Plan and NDCs. The role also includes preparing reports, summaries, and strategic documents, and supporting the planning and execution of meetings, workshops, and events.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in climate change, air pollution, sustainable development, or environment and health is required. Demonstrated experience in coordination, project management, and providing technical assistance for policy development and implementation to governments and stakeholders is essential. Experience in multi-stakeholder processes and stakeholder engagement is also required.
