Organizational Context

The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) is driving the digital transformation for the UN Secretariat, aiming for secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions. This role is within the Enterprise Solutions Service (OICT/ESS), hosted by the UN Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Centre in Deqing, China.

Job Purpose

This role contributes to the UN's digital transformation by developing and supporting mobile applications, particularly those with Geospatial and/or AI components. The purpose is to enhance the UN's operational capabilities through innovative technology solutions. The position involves designing, programming, testing, and implementing new mobile applications, ensuring they align with UN standards. Additionally, the role provides crucial application support, troubleshooting, and documentation to ensure the smooth functioning and continuous improvement of deployed mobile solutions, ultimately supporting the UN's mission.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include participating in the full lifecycle of mobile application development, from programming and testing to debugging and implementation, with a focus on Geospatial and AI components. This involves adhering to UN established standards and utilizing version control systems like Git. The role also requires preparing comprehensive technical and user documentation, developing training materials, and conducting technical presentations. Providing 3rd level application support, including version management and troubleshooting for deployed mobile applications, is essential. Continuous learning and proposing new tools and libraries to stay abreast of technological advancements are also expected.

Work Experience

Requires 3+ years of hands-on experience in building mobile applications using React/React Native or Ionic & Capacitor, and 3+ years of experience with JavaScript/TypeScript. Additionally, 2+ years of experience with API/JSON integration is necessary. Experience with iOS/Android native development, AI, and GIS is desirable.
