Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. This role is within the Local2030 Coalition Secretariat in Bilbao, part of the Global Solutions Division. The Coalition is a UN system-wide mechanism focused on engaging local stakeholders to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with UN-Habitat serving as the permanent co-chair and leading the Secretariat.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the Local2030 Coalition Secretariat in Bilbao, contributing to governance and programme management. The role focuses on enhancing engagement with the Coalition's Steering Committee and the UN Directors Group. Key contributions include facilitating knowledge exchange with stakeholders, organizing meetings and events, and supporting the preparation of various documents. The intern will assist in disseminating knowledge, documenting outcomes, and preparing reports, playing a vital role in the Coalition's operational effectiveness and its mission to advance the SDGs through strengthened partnerships and coordination.
Responsibilities
Support the facilitation of knowledge exchange with key stakeholders by creating and maintaining updated information in online shared spaces. Assist in organizing meetings, events, and workshops, including scheduling, attending, and preparing necessary documents such as invitation letters, agendas, and presentations. Contribute to team engagement in high-level meetings and partnership opportunities by drafting talking points, bios, and briefing notes. Aid in the dissemination of knowledge through drafting key messages and communications materials. Document outcomes from meetings and events, including preparing minutes, full reports, and follow-up actions. Support the Coalition’s reporting activities by assisting in the preparation of key publications like the Annual Report and High Impact Initiative Report.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint is required, and familiarity with design tools like Canva is desirable.
Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience drafting minutes, summaries, and actionable documents. Understanding of outreach, partnership building, stakeholder engagement, and event management. Strong Microsoft PowerPoint skills. Familiarity with design tools (desirable).
