Organizational Context
This position is within the Marketing and Dissemination Unit of the Documents and Publications Division at the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago. ECLAC, established in 1948, is one of the UN's five regional commissions dedicated to fostering economic and social development in Latin America and the Caribbean through policy design, advisory services, and regional cooperation.
Job Purpose
The Desktop Publishing Assistant provides specialized support in the production and dissemination of information and communication products. This includes assisting with visualizations, updating digital content for web pages and social media, and uploading publications to digital repositories with correct metadata. The role involves retrieving documents, verifying terminology, and performing daily network drive maintenance. The assistant may also contribute to data collection, analysis, and the preparation of presentations and reports, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of information services within the unit. This role is crucial for maintaining the visibility and accessibility of ECLAC's publications and digital assets.
Responsibilities
Provide specialized assistance in producing and delivering information and communication products. Assist with creating visualizations and updating digital content for web pages, brochures, and social media. Upload publications to the digital repository and ECLAC website, ensuring accurate metadata and visualizations. Retrieve documents from the UN Official Documents System (ODS) and verify terminology. Perform daily maintenance of network drives. Assist with data collection, analysis, and preparation of presentations and reports for information sharing. Support knowledge management, planning, and decision-making processes. Be available for shift work, weekend on-call duties, and overtime as required by the service needs.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive experience in digital publishing technologies, including typing, copy editing, proof-reading, and typographical layout is required. This requirement is reduced to three years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Experience in international organizations is desirable, as is experience with digital content for social media and website content management.

Proficiency in desktop publishing and typographic standards. Knowledge of digital publishing and web technologies. Ability to analyze, model, and interpret data. Strong communication skills (written and verbal). Technological awareness and willingness to learn new technologies. Initiative, creativity, and ability to meet commitments and deadlines.
